TECH HELPERS

FREE PROGRAMS

  • Convert any printable document to a PDF with CutePDF Writer. Works like a regular printer, only it prints to a PDF file. After installing, print like you normally would and a window will pop up asking you to name your file. Voila! Instant PDF and file save.
  • Foxit Reader is a free PDF document viewer, with incredible small size, breezing-fast launch speed and rich feature set. Supports Windows Me/2000/XP/2003/Vista. Works great as an alternative to the Adobe Reader.
  • Download and reply to your ASCJ email using Mozilla Thunderbird.
  • Download and install the free Adobe Flash Player.
  • Now you can print to SWF flash movie presentations and/or PDF documents from any application that supports printing with SWF Printer Pro.
  • Open and create Microsoft Office documents with Open Office. Mac compatible. Alternate download page here. Please read this Quick Tip.
  • Prefer not to download a Microsoft Office alternative? Try the free, web-based Google Docs service. Accepts most popular file formats, including DOC, XLS, ODT, ODS, RTF, CSV, PPT, etc.
  • Play your recorded class session with the Media Player.
  • Two of our favorite Internet Explorer alternatives are Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome.

LOW-COST PROGRAMS

  • The free CutePDF Writer mentioned above converts any document to a PDF easily and will keep links active. For more advanced PDF features like interactive forms, booklets, combining PDF files, resizing pages, rearranging pages, stamps, etc., there is CutePDF Pro ($49.95; has a free trial to see if it will work for you before you buy it). This is a great alternative to the more expensive Adobe Acrobat.
